What Are Impressions on Pinterest?

First things first, let’s answer this question.  An impression on Pinterest means that someone saw your pin.  That’s it.

Whether it was in their feed, the result of a search, or browsing boards, an impression means someone saw your pin.

What Do Impressions Mean on Pinterest?

Many people like to tout impressions as the be all end all on Pinterest.

Remember, an impression just means that someone saw your pin.  Did you know there are a total of five Pinterest Metrics these days?

You can read about all of them, and how to find out what your stats are in my updated and revamped Pinterest analytics guide.

Anyway, here are the five metrics:

  • Impressions
  • Saves
  • Link Clicks (Clicks)
  • Engagements
  • Closeups

The truth of the matter is that all of these are better indicators of how you are doing on Pinterest than just impressions.

While yes, impressions are important since they show you of people are seeing your pins, they are not the be all end all.

The other metrics, Saves, Lick Clicks, Engagements, and Closeups let you know that someone is interacting with your pins in some way.

Engagements is the total measure of Saves, Link Clicks, and Closeups.  It is a better measure of how you are doing than impressions.

How to Get More Impressions on Pinterest

If you are new to Pinterest, impressions can be a good guide to let you know you are doing the right things.  If people are seeing your pins, it is a good indicator that what you are doing is working to some extent.

When it comes down to how to get more impressions on Pinterest, being active is the most important part.  Pinterest likes consistency, so even if you are just pinning one time a day, try to make it every day!  Don’t be like me and ignore Pinterest for six months at a time!

Of course, we want more than just people to see our pins – we want people to engage with them!

Be sure to check Pinterest analytics frequently to see your pin performance, so you can get an idea of which pins are performing the best, and which pins are not working out too well.

Remember, impressions on Pinterest are a measure of how many times your pins have been seen.  While they are an indicator of how you are doing on Pinterest, they are not the be all end all.  At the end of the day, you want engagements with your pins, with the holy grail being Link Clicks because that is what drives traffic at the end of the day.
